My dissertation research focuses on state and community formation in the coal-mining region of La Guajira, Colombia. I work with Wayúu indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples resettled by the Cerrejón Corporation. My research interests include natural resource extraction, corporations, Afro-Colombian movements, indigenous rights, the state, violence, development, and land conflict.
