Alexander Stephens is a Ph.D. candidate in History at the University of Michigan. His research and writing are focused on migration, policing, race, and law in the United States and Caribbean. At Michigan, he coordinates public history initiatives with the Immigrant Justice Lab and the Carceral State Project, and his writing and audio work have been featured by the Washington PostForeign PolicyCityLab, and North Carolina Public Radio, among other outlets.
