Alain El Youssef has a B.A. in History (2007) and a Master’s degree in Social History (2011) from the University of São Paulo, and is currently pursuing his PhD in the same institution. His M.A thesis examines the relationship between the press and slavery in Rio de Janeiro during the first half of the nineteenth century. His current research investigates the Brazilian abolitionist process in a global perspective. Alain’s interests lay in the Brazilian Empire political history, slave trade, and slavery.
