Raíla Alves is a zami, a Black Brazilian lesbian activist, researcher, and lawyer. She has an undergraduate degree in Law by the University Center of Brasilia (UniCEUB) and a Master’s degree in Social Sciences by the Department of Latin-American Studies of the University of Brasilia (ELA/UnB). In 2017, she attended as a lecturer the First European Lesbian Conference, held in Viena, Austria, where she spoke about Latin-American Black lesbians. She was a BBQ+ Fellow (2020/2021). Her researches focus on decolonial studies, intersectionality, technology, gender, race and sexualities. In her Master thesis, she researched processes of identities elaborations of Black lesbian women inserted in the lesbian and black social movements in Brasilia. She is a Associated Researcher of AoIR (Association of Internet Researchers) and ABPN (Associação Brasileira de Pesquisadoras Negras e Negros). As a lawyer, her work focus on providing legal assistance to women victims of gender-based violence, racism, homophobia and other human rights violations.
