María Camila earned her bachelor degree in History at the Universidad Javeriana in Colombia and a master degree in History and Ethnohistory at Escuela Nacional de Antropologia e Historia in Mexico. Currently she is a doctoral student in the same program. Her dissertation focuses on the building of the border between United States and Mexico in nineteenth century, and how free and enslaved afrodescendants were articulated to this process. She is author of the book Salteadores y cuadrillas de malhechores: una aproximación a la acción colectiva de la “población negra” en el suroccidente de Nueva Granada (2015) and member of Centro de Estudios Afrocolombianos at Universidad Javeriana.
