Gutiele Gonçalves dos Santos is a PhD student in the Graduate Program in History of Science and Health at Casa de Oswaldo Cruz (COC/FIOCRUZ) in Brazil and currently a visiting graduate scholar at the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research focuses on the history of vaccination and smallpox inoculation, emphasizing the intersection between health, slavery, and indigenous populations in colonial Brazil and the Portuguese Empire. She is a member of the research group Slavery, Race, and Health (CNPq) and the Núcleo de Estudos Escravidão, Raça e Saúde (NERAS/Fiocruz). Additionally, she serves on the Editorial Board of the journal África e Africanidades.
