PhD and Post-Doc in Sociology from the University of Brasilia, with a doctoral fellow period at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana – Unidad Xochimilco, in Mexico City. Alumnus of the Marc Claster Mamolen Dissertation Workshop at the Institute for Afro-Latin American Research, Harvard University. Master in Social Sciences – Comparative Studies on the Americas, also from the University of Brasília. Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Afro-Latin American Research, Harvard University, where, besides doing research, Guilherme coordinates the Certificate on Afro-Latin American Studies. His main research topics are Afro-Brazilian religions and their sociability, women’s leadership roles, and relations with the State in Latin America, crossed by questions of race and gender. Guilherme is particularly interested in the study of Candomblé and Umbanda, through a Calundu and Afro-Latin American perspective. Founding member of Calundu – Grupo de Estudos sobre Religiões Afro-Brasileiras. Editor of the academic journal Revista Calundu. Ogan of the Candomblé community Cabana Senhora da Glória – Nzo Kuna Nkos’i.
